GRACE:

Grace is a sweet and friendly black lab mix who was severely injured on April 13th. The policeman who picked her up said she'd been hit by a car, although her injury doesn't necessarily look like that. She was found with a 6-8 inch jagged gash in her rear leg that went to the bone, almost like she caught it in something. Regardless of how Grace was injured, she needed help. The police took Grace to an emergency clinic for preliminary treatment, but then returned her to the local shelter the next day. P.A.W.S. volunteers found her there and rushed her to our veterinarian, who cleaned and bandaged the wound. The cut was too deep to suture, so Grace must have a fresh, complex, bandage daily while the wound heals itself, which may take another month.  She has a wonderful loving personality and has completely recovered from her injuries. She bears scars on her leg and tail, but not on her heart. She follows her foster family everywhere and loves attention. She gets along with other dogs, but still likes to chase cats. We don't think she would hurt a kitty, but we haven't allowed her to catch one yet. Grace is housebroken and sleeps all night in her crate. She has been out of the crate unsupervised and hasn't gotten into too much trouble. She likes to be outside, especially if she has human company. She likes a game of fetch, but is happy carrying around a toy.
