THE P.A.W.S. MISSION

P.A.W.S. (Precious Animal Welfare Society) of Michigan is a 501 (c) (3), all-volunteer group that promotes the humane, compassionate, and responsible treatment of all animals. It is our mission to protect and care for homeless animals by placing them with loving foster families until compatible permanent homes can be found, and to engage in benevolent and charitable activities to support this goal. We are dedicated to lowering the number of animals needlessly euthanized each year in our community by promoting the spaying and neutering of all companion animals and in educating the public on the importance of responsible animal guardianship. Working in alliance with other rescue groups and animal welfare agencies we seek to develop a network of like-minded individuals who strive to eliminate animal suffering and create an animal-friendly community.

ADOPTIONS

P.A.W.S. works with a network of foster homes to keep the cats and dogs in our program safe and cared for until their forever homes can be found. We are always in need of new foster parents. Please fill out a volunteer form if you are interested in becoming a foster parent.

Our adoptable animals are always listed on Petfinder.Com. Please view our Adopt Me section for more information on our adoption process and fees, and to view pictures and information about the animals in our program.   A selection of those available for adoption are taken to weekly adoption events at area PetSmart stores, as well as to other special events throughout the year. All events are listed on our Events page.

SPAYING AND NEUTERING

P.A.W.S. firmly believes that the only way to completely address the crisis of animal overpopulation and ensure a home for every animal is through spaying and neutering. Literally millions of healthy, adoptable animals are euthanized each year in the United States because there aren’t enough homes for them. We can help save lives by preventing unwanted births.

Spay/Neuter Assistance Program:  The P.A.W.S. Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) helps to fund the cost of this important surgery for families who could not otherwise afford it. Please see our Spay/Neuter page for more information on this program, and for a list of local clinics that provide low-cost spaying and neutering.

The P.A.W.S. Spay/Neuter Clinic:  P.A.W.S. is excited to announce our plans to open our own low cost spay/neuter clinic in the Downriver area (Wayne County), we hope in early 2010.  Please see our Spay/Neuter Clinic page for more details and to find out how you can help get the clinic up-and-running sooner.

PET FOOD BANK

P.A.W.S of Michigan is pleased to announce a new program to help keep pets in their family homes as they should be instead of in a shelter!  Due to the poor economy many people are finding it difficult to feed themselves, much less their animals, and so have been forced to give up their loving animal companions.  We will be accepting donated pet food and distributing it to area food banks. The food banks have agreed to distribute these pet food donations while they distribute their regular food.  If you have pet food to donate or need more information on where to receive food please email us at petfood@pawsofmichigan.com or call @ 734-629-3837.
